What is your interior decor style? Many people have told me that they don’t know their interior decor style? After years of decorating, I have discovered that beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. What one person thinks is so beautiful another may find tacky. Focus on what makes you feel special and content in your home. This is the beginning of finding your interior decor style.
Growing up in the South was sweet and pun intended. Overall, I felt that most people treated me kindly especially my family. But over the years I have learned that Southern people have some of the best Southern Sayings and can deliver them right at the most opportune time.
For example, soon after I married my husband we were riding down the road and an awful smell seeped into the car and out from this quite man who was enjoying the view came the words, ” That smells like kharn!” I started laughing and asked what the heck is kharn? He proceeded to share that is a foul rotten smell.
Well, that was a new one to me. Being from the south, I thought I heard it all, but this man delivers a new one about every year.
But more on a serious note, there are lots of words, sayings, and the beautiful Southern accents are not heard of in other parts of the country. I have found while visiting out of the South that I can deliver one of those “ordinary” words or phrases like “Lordy Bee” and I get crickets. If you know what I mean! One time I was visiting family in Maine and discovered while shopping that some people were listening to me talk. My sister-in-law said they commented on how they liked to hear my accent. That’s funny! I didn’t know I had an accent, but I could tell they did.
So what interesting southern sayings have you heard in your lifetime?
Stacy and her sister were enjoying coffee at Starbucks during their usual Sunday before church prayer time. After their parents had passed away, they decided to find one day a week to spend time together, catch up from the week before and pray. It was their special time to connect and spend time together. But today Stacy shares that she wants to paint her kitchen, and she just couldn’t decide on a color. Her baby sister, who happened to be an Interior Designer, suggested she paint it a soft white. “A soft white kitchen?” said Stacy. That’s not a good idea with my golden retriever and two small sons. Plus it doesn’t have any color. It would be dirty all the time, and I would spend too much of my time cleaning it. Stacy wasn’t so sure about this idea, but she trusted her sister.
I’M DREAMING OF A WHITE KITCHEN!
Eventually, her little sister talked her into taking a week to think about it and promised to send her some pictures to look at. White is a refreshing, simple, and clean color. If used correctly it can be a fantastic choice. Here are a few suggestions if you are thinking of painting something white or going for an all white design.

Unlike what most people believe there are an unlimited number of shades of white. To keep this simple, there is a cool white and a warm white. Whenever you’re selecting a white start by looking at the room you are working on. If you have to work with existing furniture, cabinets and such, ask yourself if your room has more warm tones or cool tones. If it’s warm, then look for a white that has a brown undertone. If it has a more calm tone, then look for a room that’s more of a blue undertone. It’s that simple.

So, now the decision of whether you can live with a white room. Stacy has a mental block against white, and that’s why her sister suggested she take some time to think about it.
Decorating with Whites can be a challenge when it comes to cleaning. It does require daily touch-ups, and if you happen to be a germaphobe, then white might be a good choice for you because it doesn’t hide dirt and germs. ? Overall white can be a great color to use in your decorating. Don’t be afraid! If you like bright and airy then white may be the new color for you.

Light Up Your Life
Grace has spent many hours decorating her bedroom to give it a fresh look: painting the walls, buying accessories, and placing items in various locations. Her bedroom looks fantastic during the day, and she is so proud of her hard work. But at night, her ceiling fan light is so dim she can hardly see to move around the room. She sighs with defeat; her room still looks like a cave, and she resolves to buy a new ceiling fan.
Grace is not alone with this dilemma. Lighting in decorating can take an ordinary room to the extraordinary. There are so many options to choose from without hiring an electrician to put in new lights. Here are some tips to give your rooms that sparkle!
A simple solution is to go with a brighter bulb. Instead of a 60-watt bulb, consider trying a 100 watt. However, make sure you follow the lamp’s stated limits. Most fixtures are labeled stating the correct wattage requirements.
Another idea is to try an LED bulb. While it may cost more to purchase one of these bulbs, it’s well worth the money. LED bulbs will save you in energy costs, and they last a very long time. You will save money in the long run, and you can go with a higher wattage, as well.
Decorators know to place both table and floor lamps around a room for improved function and aesthetics. Strategically placed lamps can improve the ambiance of a space. Depending on the occasion, lamps can create an inviting atmosphere for a house on the market, a charming mood for an intimate dinner party, or a special spot for a quiet read.
Finally, if you can afford recessed lighting, consider going that route. Visit your locally owned lighting store and ask for their help in placement and what fixtures to use. It may cost you a little extra, but generally, their advice pays the difference.
I hope these tips help you light up your decorating. Turn on the proper lighting to give your space sparkle and charm and make it more cozy or cheerful.
Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” Her words are so true. But sometimes we are so battered and bruised until we can’t overcome the overwhelming feeling inside.
Back in my 20’s I came across a book by Dr. James Dobson that addressed these issues. His chapter on “The Canyon of Inferiority” opened my eyes. As I read this chapter, while planning a lesson, I discovered that all my life I felt inferior and I didn’t have to.
So whether your a teenager or an adult that has feelings of not being important or necessary then I hope this helps you.
Let’s begin with that your not alone. That’s right–your not the only young person who feels this way. That was a big eye opener for me. I thought I was the only young person on this planet who felt inferior. It may seem like there are others who don’t care and they hide it by being shy, hilarious, mean or unfriendly. But Dobson states, “It will give you more confidence to know that everyone is afraid of embarrassment and ridicule.”
The next step to overcoming feelings of inferiority is putting God first. God loves you and knows your hurts. Remembering that he cares will help you deal with those overwhelming feeling. So set some time each day to spend time with the One who cares about you the most.
Next, write down what makes you feel inferior. It may take you several days to do this task but seeing on paper what it is that makes you feel not important will help you identify and reject those thoughts that are not godly.
Now this is the part I like. Find a true friend to talk your problems over with. Its important to think through who this friend is–someone who is mature and makes wise decisions. Look for someone whom you trust and talk to them about feeling of inferiority. You may be surprised that they have or had the same feelings.
And last take some time with your friend to create a strategy on how to deal with these feelings of inferiority.
Remember that, “You are fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalms 139:14. The God who made you has great plans for you. You are exactly as he planned you to be. Take joy in that because todays troubles are preparing you for great things tomorrow. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, Plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
