RUSTIC OUTDOOR CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS FOR YOUR SMALL PORCH

Here are easy to create rustic outdoor Christmas decorations for your small porch. These ideas bring the outdoors in and add a natural feel to your holiday decorations.

Outdoor Christmas decor ideas on your Back porch

Rustic outdoor Christmas decorations sound like a great idea, but where? We decided to create some outdoor Christmas spirit on our small back porch. Who doesn't want a winter wonderland on your front porch or back porch? So join me as we talk about some Christmas outdoors decorating!

Update: This year we added our newest ideas to this post along with the old ideas. The snow-covered flocked tree is this year's idea and they will be first in this post. The real tree from years ago comes last and will be after the snow-covered tree story.

RUSTIC OUTDOOR CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

Rustic handmade outdoor tree decorations

This year we are repurposing and making new homemade ornaments for our outdoor décor. The paper ornaments are gift tags from our Christmas DIY gift tags post. They are great for porch decorations but make sure your tree is away from the rain. If you do decide to place a tree in your yard, make sure your ornaments or lawn decorations are weather-resistant and made for outdoor use. Lawn ornaments and outdoor lighting are also the perfect addition to your front yard or outdoor space to display your holiday spirit.

The remaining ornaments were old ornaments brought down from the attic. Use rusted looking ornaments, birds, berries, or anything that is outdoorsy on your tree.

Christmas Vintage Sled

Vintage Christmas sled

Think about fun things you can do outside in the winter and a vintage Christmas sled fit the ticket so I grabbed this beauty at an antique store back in the summer and decided it's new home for Christmas is the back porch.

Add a simple ribbon to your decorative piece and like magic, you have a little more Christmas spirit this holiday season on your back porch. Other great options or ideas to add decorations are skis, wagons, a light display, or any toy used outside. Rope lights are another great idea to backlight your rustic decorations.

Christmas stocking for the outdoors

Fur stockings fit in perfectly with this rustic outdoor vibe but not having a mantle was a little tricky. If you don't have a mantle check out my creative ways to hang stockings post or try this trick.

Grab an old piece of wood from your woodpile if you have one and drive nails in it to hold your stockings.

It is that simple!

Hang the wood on the wall and garnish with a berry vine and the ribbon from the sled. Repetition is a great design element.

Like magic you have a stocking hanger!

Outdoor porch Christmas decorations

That is pretty much everything for a simple outdoor Christmas porch but let's look at my porch from years ago especially if you want to use a real tree. We live in a warmer climate so our options are endless for outdoor spaces and Christmas yard decorations.

Christmas Outdoor Porch Idea Using a Real Tree

A great place to start planning your outdoor Christmas decorating is a trip to a Christmas tree farm but let me encourage you to go pick up some Starbucks or something to drink on the way.

Bringing a fun treat begins the journey with everyone in a good mood, and no one is hangry–if you know what I mean.

CHRISTMAS TREE SHOPPING

Christmas tree shopping at an outdoors Havana Christmas Tree Farm

To begin our quest we traveled to the Havana Christmas Tree Farm, in Havana, Florida, to search for just the right REAL tree.  This Christmas tree farm is precisely the perfect place to visit and has a lot of beautiful Christmas trees. You can also get extra clippings to make a fresh Christmas wreath for your front door.

They were so helpful and friendly!  They even let us use their gator, it's like a golf cart, to ride around the property searching for the right tree.  After about 30 minutes we finally found just the perfect Christmas tree, and you will never believe where it was.

Yes, it was right behind the main building.

OLD CROCK TREE BASE

Outdoor Christmas crock

So now we have a beautiful Carolina Christmas tree!  Instead of using the usual store-bought base for our tree, we decided to use an old crock.

It was perfect!  By using bricks on the bottom and the sides, we were able to stand it up securely inside.

However, let me encourage you to put a pot in your crock.  We had to use a lot of water to fill up this container to where the tree base started.

RUSTIC CHRISTMAS TREE DECOR

Nature inspired rustic outdoor Christmas decorations on a Christmas tree on a porch.

After setting up the tree, and might I add it smells beautiful, on our back porch.  We added some white outdoor Christmas lights and nature theme decorations along with a few ornaments from our travels.

Use ornaments that have a rusty look to them. We used large rusted bells. Also, look for ornaments with different kinds of bird feathers. Consider fake birds that are perched on your tree or ball ornaments that are wrapped with feathers.

I want to encourage when styling your outdoor tree to look for some ornaments that have a little white in them.  Otherwise, your whole tree will be very dark.

The white colors against the dark tree limbs really stand out and brighten the Christmas tree.

I also suggest some plaid ribbon.  Hannah did most of the decorating this year and decided against the plaid ribbon, but I think it will look nice either way.

Plaid fits in nicely with outdoor decorations!

And last, top your tree with something that has an outdoor vibe. We have a rustic Christmas tree star.

RUSTIC OUTDOOR CHRISTMAS ACCESSORIES

Now you have your tree trimmed and dressed let's focus on some outdoor Christmas decor around the small porch like this rustic looking Santa.  He fits that all-natural design.

Another idea that I think would be cute is a sled.  Or some outdoor Christmas pillows.  It's important that your pillows be made of quality outdoor fabric unless you have a covered porch.

OUTDOOR TREE CUTTINGS

Last, use some of the cuttings from the tree to decorate the porch.  We used cuttings under an old fashion lantern that lives on our porch year-round and more on top of the wall decorations.

Outdoor Christmas bell

And to top off your style add a bell to one of the door knobs.  It brings some jingle to your space.
