As you all know, I love decorating for holidays, but I love even more sharing ideas with all of you! So today I am sharing a Valentine’s Banner that I created for our mantle.
If you are not a crafty person, then this might be just the banner for you because it is made up of all purchased pieces. Now you are probably wondering why mine is all natural colors. Well, I played around with different shades of pink and finally decided to go with white letters because of the color scheme of my living room and my love for white right now. Don’t let my alphabet selection keep you from going all out with pink. You never know next year I may change it to pink or red.
Since love is our topic for this blog post, then I guess I can say that I fell in love with this wooden unfinished banner garland. And the best part is how inexpensive it was. Whenever I decided to do a garland on the mantle, I looked for something that would work with my living room design and possibly something that I could change the letters or design to go with other holidays. So began the search for a neutral layout. Lucky for me I found this all natural wood banner at the first stop which was Target.
Now for the fun part except looking for just the right piece took me some time. I knew I wanted heart shapes but wasn’t sure what I would find. One thing I have learned about designing is to not have an exact thing in mind but let your creativity flow as you shop. I fell in love, again when I saw these wooden hearts! Now you are wondering how I applied them to the banner. Well, remember me telling you I wanted something that was interchangeable? Behind this sweet heart is a small clear sticky velcro dot. It worked like a charm.
A little about the LOVE letters. I used my silhouette which if your thinking of purchasing a vinyl cutting machine I would highly recommend Silhouette Cameo. You can download their software from the internet and creativity is endless. It’s marvelous! Anyways, I used the Harrington font for my LOVE letters but if you go to my Valentine’s Pinterest board you will find lots of other ideas. And I used a white vinyl but like I said you can go with other colors like pink, hot pink and red vinyl. Use what color makes you feel happy or coordinate with your living room. Last, I made sure to measure the height I wanted the letters to be then adjusted my size inside the Silhouette software. However, if you don’t have a cutting machine there are lots of options in craft stores or online of letters already cut. The internet is endless!

So here is the end product. I decided to keep my Christmas white sweater ball garland to go with it. Oh, and that is another idea. When you’re shopping for holiday decorations, look for things that might work during other holidays.
It’s so much fun to celebrate Valentine’s day when you do little touches like this banner to your home.
What Valentine’s word would you write on this cute wooden banner?
