Rosemary is one of my favorite herbs and the perfect greenery for spreading the Christmas spirit. These tiny wonders are not only charming and aromatic, but small rosemary wreaths also make wonderful gifts or adornments for presents.

Before we begin, let's make sure you have everything you need to create your Christmas decor.

Gather Your Supplies

To make your own rosemary wreath, you will need:

How to Make a Rosemary Wreath

Your fresh rosemary wreath is easy and fun to assemble. Let's get to it! Begin by gathering long sprigs of rosemary. I have a rosemary bush in my herb garden. If you do not have a rosemary bush or a friend who will let you snip some of their bush then I recommend buying a rosemary plant if you plan to make more than one wreath.

However, if you are only making one mini wreath it may be enough to buy a couple of boxes in the grocery store produce section.

Now that we have the rosemary and other supplies let's get back to the craft.

Step 1: Prepare the Rosemary

Trim off the tough end of the sprig to ensure a smooth finish.

Step 2: Form the Rosemary Wreath in Bowl

Place your stems of rosemary in a bowl to help achieve the shape of a circle. Make sure to keep the center open only following around the edge of the circle of the bowl.

Arrange the rosemary sprigs flat and carefully shape them around the sides of the bowl, creating the herb wreath shape. Continue layering the rosemary until you have a good base for your wreath form.

Step 2: Secure with Floral Wire

I prefer using green floral wire for this step rather than twine as it blends into the rosemary better and the green color virtually disappears. Take a piece of green florist wire and bend it into a U-shape.

Use this to secure the rosemary by wrapping it around one side of the sprigs and twisting the wire together.

You can remove the wreath from the bowl after adding a few pieces of wire but you may want to work over a paper towel or place setting to make clean up easy.

as you secure the wreath you can add more rosemary as needed

Repeat the process of adding wire around the rosemary stems at several points around the wreath, adding an additional sprig of rosemary as needed to achieve your desired fullness.

Step 3: Trim the Excess Wire

Once you have secured the rosemary with floral wire, use wire cutters to trim away any excess pieces of wire.

This will give your wreath a neat and polished look.

Step 4: Finish with a Bow

For the final touch, fashion a bow using your ribbon.

You can create angled cuts at the ends for a classic look, or fold them in half vertically and cut at an angle for a stylish V-shape.

Step 5: Add a Ribbon Hanger

Next, take a piece of smaller 1/4″ ribbon and wrap it around the wreath for a hanger. Bring the ends of the ribbon together and tie a knot to hold it in place.

Trim any excess ribbon above the knot for a tidy finish. Well, guess what? We are all finished. Now let's see how I decorated with my mini rosemary wreath and talk about other ideas.

Decorating with a Rosemary Wreath

Fragrant rosemary wreaths are so fun to decorate with and my kitchen seem to be calling for this herb wreath. So I added it to my plate rack in the kitchen.

Isn't this adorable! It brings charm and the sweet scent of Christmas into your home.

Other fun places to decorate with a rosemary wreath are to hang it on a door, turn it into rosemary wreath place cards for your holiday table, or present it as a handmade gift to someone special.

One year I made a larger rosemary wreath with a white bow and brass bells and hung it on my bench in the entryway.

It was so amazing and beautiful! That year I used a piece of wire behind it to help it keeps its structure.
