Christmas decor with mason jars has that farmhouse feel that would be perfect in any kitchen.  So let's pull out some gingerbread cookie decor, Ball® mason jars, and a few other items to create something special like this hanging macrame piece with Christmas jars filled with candles and snow.

Christmas Decor with Mason Jars

Before we get started, did you know the Ball® mason jar company began in the 1800's?

I love creating projects with some history behind them. They make the best gifts and add so much character to holiday home decor.

What is a Ball® mason jar?

Just in case you don't know what a Ball mason jar is, it is a glass jar with a metal screw on lid that has been used for canning foods since the 1800's.  But today people use them as drinking glasses, storage, decorations, canning and more.

Getting Started

Let's begin this hanging macrame Christmas mason jar decorations with selecting your mason jars and supplies.

Feel free to step out of the box and pick a blue or amber colored jar or go with the traditional clear mason jar.

There are many different sizes to choose from as well.  I found these anniversary edition half pint jars at Michael's, which by the way had many different sizes, color, and shape options.  Michael's is a great place to shop for Christmas decor with mason jars.

Now in addition to your mason jars, you will need these items to make your Christmas hanging macrame mason jar holder:

• Ball® mason jars anniversary edition half pint
• Macrame twine
• Pinecone greenery
• Gingerbread man ornament
• Twine
• Bracelet that opens
• Scissors
• Ruler
• Fake Snow
• Battery operated tea light candles

How to Make Macrame Mason Jar Hangers

Yay! Now it's time to get started on creating the macrame part.  This step by step tutorial will walk you through each knot, etc.

To begin you will need to measure out eight 48″ strips of macrame twine.

Next, evenly place them in your hand.

Now, tie a knot towards the top and pull tightly.  It even helps to pull each cord to make sure it is nice and snug.

Next, lay the knot on the table and spread out the cords in a star shape like the photo below.

Sit your Ball® mason jar on top of the knot, lining up the center of the jar with the knot.

Then, measure up a cord to determine where you want your first knot.

Now, take two cords and tie a knot where you chose to have your knot placed.

Next, repeat this step all the way around the base until all the cords have been tied into a knot.

Now, lay them all out and give them a tug.

One row of knots are done and it is on to the next step.  Start by laying out all the knots in that star shape.

See how we are repeating the steps again?

Place your Ball® mason jar on top of the base knot.  Then, take a cord and measure up to where you want the next row of knots to go.

Next, take on a cord that trails from one of the knots you did before and a cord from the other knot you did before and tie a knot. In other words, take the inside cords of two knots from the previous row, and tie them together.

Once you have the second row of knots complete put your mason jar inside and hold it up.

You may need to re-position the mason jar a few times to make sure it is completely even and all the knots sit on the jar perfectly.

Next, determine if you want a third row of knots and mark where to start that first knot.

Just like before, make sure to take a cord from each knot and start tying a knot.

Hold your mason jar in place and make sure your third row is exactly where you wanted it to be.

Once you are finished give them all a nice tug again.

Place your jar inside and give it a look to make sure it is just how you want it to be.

It even helps to lay it on its side and give it a tug again with the mason jar inside.

The last step is tying the cords onto a ring.  We used a bracelet that opens up so we would have the option to open the ring in case we needed to. This came in handy later.

Once you have all three macrame hangers finished, hold up the cords to determine the height of each one.

Also, here is a handy trick we discovered.  We sat a chair on the table and place the ring on the chair.  This made working much easier.

Odd numbers are a good pair when decorating.  We decided on three hanging macrame mason jars but you should always be creative and go with what you feel most appealing.

Also, place the jars at different heights.  This will make them easier to see when they are on display.

Now, tie the next hanging macrame ball mason jar holder onto the ring and cut the cords.

Again, pulling one cord at a time really ties it off nicely.

Oh geez!!  Isn't that beautiful!

Lastly, cut your cord tails ends to the length you prefer.

Decorating your Hanging Macrame Mason Jar Holder

So, if you thought that was fun then you will really love this next step.

Let's begin by grabbing those items for the Christmas decor with mason jars project.

First, add an ornament of your choice to your wreath.  Like I said before I found most everything at Michael's except for a few items I already had at home.

This wreath is actually a Christmas Noel garland.  I purchased it already wrapped into this round wreath shape.

To add your ornament, find a nice flat place for it on the wreath and bend some of the greenery around it to make it look more natural.

Next, take the twine and tie the ornament in a way that the tie doesn't show.

Next, add a long piece of twine so you can tie the wreath and ornament to the macrame ring.

I suggest attaching the decorations with twine instead of glue so you can change out the decorations for each holiday or season throughout the year.

And there you have it, you're almost finished.

Adding the snow and candles

The last step of this Ball® mason jars Christmas decor project is adding the snow and candles.

The easiest part of the decoration is adding the snow and candles.  Begin by using a tablespoon and dropping snow into the jars.

I used about three or four spoons full.

The main point is to make it where the candle will sit down into the snow and keep it from falling over in the jar.

The snow also gives your mason jars that wonderful winter Christmas feeling.

Finding a Spot for your Christmas Decor with Mason Jars

Remember how I mentioned earlier that my kitchen board and baton wall really needed some attention.  Well, it just needed some Christmas decor with mason jars.

Ball mason jars, macrame cord, and a Christmas touch I have transformed my wall into a cozy farmhouse look for the holidays.
