Let’s be honest—spring in the South is beautiful until everything you own is covered in a thick layer of yellow dust. We had just finished weeding our flower beds and planting pink zinnias, and the yard was looking intentional and fresh. But then I looked at my porch.

It was tired, it was dusty, and it definitely didn't match the hard work I’d just put into the garden.
I knew I wanted a cleaner, more minimal look this year, but I didn't want to spend hours scrubbing. I needed a plan that was quick, simple, and, most importantly, effective.

My Step-by-Step Spring Porch Refresh
The very first thing I did was tackle the mess. My old blower just wasn't cutting it anymore; it lacked the “oomph” needed for a real deep clean.
So, I headed to Lowe’s (via the app for a quick curbside pickup!) and came home with a “secret weapon” that changed everything: the Kobalt 40-Volt 160 mph Brushless Blower.
I picked this up during the Springfest sale, and it is a total keeper.
It has three settings, but the max airflow trigger is where the magic happens. It took me mere minutes to clear the porch, walkway, and driveway. It’s a bit heavier than my old one, but for the power and time I saved? Worth every ounce.
From Cleaning to Creating
Once the pollen was gone, it was time for the fun part: the decor. Since I was already at Lowe’s for the blower, I decided to grab my plants, a fresh doormat, and outdoor pillows to finish the look.
Pro Tip: The “Dry Run” Shopping Hack When shopping for container gardens, don’t guess! I actually brought my thrifted Longaberger basket and my terracotta pot right into Lowe’s with me. I set the plants inside the pots while still in the store to see how the heights and colors looked. It saves a return trip and ensures a perfect fit!

Simple Decor: The Rug and the Greenery
I wanted a much cleaner look this year, so I moved away from the layered rug trend and went for one large, classic statement piece. I chose the Style Selections “Welcome Home” mat. At 23″ x 35″, it fits the width of the front door perfectly without feeling cluttered.

Next, I tackled the containers using my favorite “Thriller, Filler, Spiller” method, but with a functional twist:
- The Thriller: I put a Lemongrass herb plant in the center of my terracotta pot for height (and for cooking!).
- The Fillers & Spillers: I tucked in Snowsurfer Forte Candytuft, Blue My Mind, and Superbells Lemon Slice.
- The Personal Touch: I even used a few leftover pink zinnias from the garden to tie the porch and yard together.

Vintage Charm: The Thrifted Door Basket
While I love a classic wreath, this year I wanted something with a bit more texture. I pulled out one of my favorite thrifted finds, a vintage Longaberger basket, to use as my “front door flower pot.”
Since the Snowsurfer Forte Candytuft was on sale at Lowe's, I grabbed three nursery pots to fill the basket. These crisp white blooms are so refreshing against the wood of the basket! Plus, the white snowsurfer is a repeat flower you saw in the terracotta post. Repetition is a designer's trick.

I used the same “no-planting” hack here:
- I nestled the three nursery pots directly into the basket.
- I tucked peat moss (I found mine at Hobby Lobby) around the tops to hide the plastic rims and give it a finished, professional look.
- I finished it off with a simple off-white bow using my favorite ribbon and wire method.
It’s a 5-minute project that completely changes the look of the entryway!
The “No-Planting” Maintenance Hack
One of my favorite things about this setup? I didn't actually “plant” the flowers in the basket or the terracotta pot. I kept them in their original nursery pots and nestled them inside, covering the tops with peat moss (found at Hobby Lobby).
When the flowers in the basket need water, I just lift the nursery pots out, water them away from the porch (no messy drips!), and pop them back in. For the terracotta pot, I water them right inside the pot.
Side note: I place floral foam in the bottom of the pots to elevate the nursery containers.
Cozy Finishing Touches: Allen + Roth Pillows
Once the plants were in place, the porch still needed a bit of softness. I’ve had this white vintage bench for a while now, and it’s the perfect place to sit and enjoy the garden, but it needed a refresh of its own.

I found these beautiful Allen + Roth outdoor pillows at Lowe's that pulled the whole color palette together. They add that “living room” comfort to the outdoors and make the bench feel like an intentional part of the design rather than just an afterthought.

The Final Layout
To pull it all together, I placed my terracotta garden in front of my white estate sale bench and added a pair of new Allen + Roth pillows to the bench to add a soft, cozy pop of color.

I finished the look by hanging the Longaberger basket on the door with an off-white ribbon using my favorite ribbon and wire method.

The result? A porch that is clean, pretty, and took a fraction of the time to put together. Sometimes, the best refresh is the one that lets you get back to enjoying your home sooner.

Common Questions (FAQ)
- Why use Lemongrass? It’s hardy in the sun and acts as a natural deterrent for some flying insects!
- Is the Kobalt blower easy for daily use? Yes! I use it every morning to keep the fresh pollen off the mat and brick porch. It’s much faster than a broom.
