Creating a DIY Gingerbread House Garland
I always like to start holiday projects by assembling the supplies I need. So let's gather these supplies and start crafting.
Supplies Needed:
- Etsy Gingerbread House printable
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Xacto knife
- Crafting pad
- Double-sided tape or glue stick
- Ribbon
- Yarn needle
Step-by-Step Instructions for Crafting Your DIY Gingerbread House Garland:
Now that we've got our supplies together, let's get started on our festive garland! However, if you would rather watch than read check out my YouTube video here.
Step 1: Download, print, and cut out your gingerbread houses.
Download and print the gingerbread house templates on cardstock in the colors of your preference.
Don't you love all the gingerbread house details? So cute!
Cut out the gingerbread house shapes. Ensure you cut precisely along the edges and dotted lines for proper assembly.
Step 2: Fold Your Gingerbread Houses
Next, fold the gingerbread house along the dotted lines.
Start with the small edges, followed by the sides of the house. Scoring with a nail or scissors can help achieve neat folds.
Note: When folding the roof look at the cutting or nicks and line it up there for folding. Do not fold along the white line of the roof.
Step 3: Assemble the Houses
Assemble the gingerbread house staring with the floor and using a glue stick or piece of tape on the inside.
Attach the larger sides first, then the shorter sides, and finish with the roof.
Step 4: Add Slits in Roof for Ribbon
Carefully use the Xacto knife to make a slit on each side of the roof for threading the ribbon.
Step 5: Prepare the Garland Ribbon
Measure where you intend to hang the garland and cut the ribbon to that length.
Step 6: Design Your Garland
Lay out the ribbon and arrange the houses in your preferred order on the garland.
Step 7: Thread the Ribbon
Thread the ribbon through yarn needle.
Use the yarn needle to thread the ribbon through the slits on the gingerbread house roofs.
Go in on one side and out through the other. Making the ribbon and needle move through the house is tough but go ahead and push. It won't hurt it.
Step 8: Hang the Garland
Finally, hang your garland and adjust the houses until they are positioned just right.
And guess what? This sweet little gingerbread house garland is all finished and it's to decorate. Here are a few final shots of it all put together.
I decided to hang mine on our bookcase in our living room area.
