Here you will find step by step instructions on how to hang a wreath on a glass door, also known as a storm door. This technique will also work on a screen door too.

At my daughter's house, they have glass doors on their front door and back door. She has a wreath hanging on her door, but you cannot see it as easily as if it was hanging on the glass metal door.

So today, I am sharing an easy way to hang a wreath on a glass door without using a door wreath hanger or suction cups and show you a clever way to do it. This is also the best option that isn't permanent and won't cause damage, especially if you're in a rental.

How to Hang a Wreath on a Glass Door

To start this project, I gathered a few supplies. Here is what I used:

• Wreath (we used this lavender and caspia wreath)
• Ribbon (we used an off white frayed edge linen)
• Command hook (ensure the weight limits can match the weight of your wreath)
• Measuring tape
• Step stool
• Scissors

Now that we have all our supplies let's look at how to hang this wreath on a glass storm door. I think you'll agree this is a great option!

Step 1: Measure

Begin by measuring across the back of the glass door at the top on the metal, find the center, and make a mark.

Step 2: Adhere Command Hook

Next, follow the directions on your command hook package and place your command hook upside down on the back of the door frame where you made the mark. Make sure your hook is rated to handle the weight of the wreath.

If your door is painted a darker color, you may consider using a clear hook, so it doesn't stand out too much.

Step 3: Add Ribbon to Wreath

Now cut a long length of ribbon. I cut a 40″ piece of ribbon. Loop the ribbon around the top of the wreath and connect the ends.

This wreath came with a hook on the back of the wreath, so I looped the ribbon through the hook but if you do not have a hook, loop the ribbon around the body of the wreath.

Also, we used an off-white linen ribbon from Hobby Lobby, but here is a similar off white linen ribbon I found online. You'll find the pretty ribbon that's best for your home.

Step 4: Tie Ribbon to the Command Hook

Next, set the wreath on the front of the glass door where you want it, bring the ribbon over the top of the door, and tie a bow or knot under the command hook.

I tied this ribbon in a sailor's knot because it is a simple way to ensure you don't see the ribbon hanging down through the glass. Here is how to tie a sailor's knot in my YouTube video on hanging a wreath on a glass door.

Cut the ends of the ribbon short, so they don't show through the glass window unless you like the look. Then you can leave them long.

Our wreath is finished and hung on my daughter's glass storm door. You can see the wreath so much easier now that the wreath hangs on the front of the glass storm door.

I thought you might like to see a close-up of the ribbon hanging over the front of the door with it shut. Because the storm door has a lip, a ribbon is perfect because it gives and lets the door shut completely no matter the shape of the top of your door, unlike a door wreath hook.

The funny story is that I bought this dried lavender and caspia wreath for my daughter to hang on the door, not the glass storm door. But when I arrived to help hang the wreath, my daughter decided to paint her door too.

Savanna was thinking of using one of the green paint colors by Sherwin Williams, but the wreath didn't look good on green. It just happened that I had a set of the best griege Sherwin Williams paint samples with me, and she fell in love with Warm Stone.

So after painting the wood door, we placed the wreath on the door.

But then decided to try it on the storm door and see which one we liked better. Guess which way my daughter picked. She decided to keep it on her beautiful warm brown painted door.

She loves to keep the door open during the day to let the sunshine in, and this will make for a pretty decoration when the door is open so this was the best place for her home.

That is an excellent question; the answer is really up to you. You can hang your wreath on your door where the storm door protects your wreath, or you can hang it on the outside of the door, so it is more visible. There is no right or wrong way.

What do I use to hang a wreath on glass?

There are different ways to hang a wreath on glass. If you want to hang a wreath on glass, I will use a suction hook or self adhesive hooks. A self adhesive command hook can hold more weight and work better for a heavy wreath. If hanging a heavier wreath, you may consider adding a second self-adhesive hook. I personally think the ribbon is prettier than metal wreath hangers.

Once you have your hook in place inside of the door, you can leave it to move your wreath from the door to the storm door, making this one of the easiest ways to change your wreath seasonally. You may want to consider outdoor command hooks if you don't have a porch over the door.

The good thing is this technique also works on storm doors, screen doors, and glass front doors. I think that makes this the best method to hang a wreath.
