Welcome to our enchanting 2023 Christmas home tour, inspired timeless novel “Little Women.” This year, we're embracing the warmth of burgundy and gold Christmas decor, intertwined with the luxurious touch of velvet textures and a humble ribbon tree.
Join us as we unveil the magic room by room, sharing the stories and inspirations behind each carefully curated element.
What was the Inspiration for Our Little Women Christmas Home Tour?
In our household, the love for “Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott runs deep, from reading the novel as a young girl to falling in love with the newest Little Women movie. Choosing this theme for Christmas time was a heartfelt decision rooted in the timeless, humble charm of the novel.
Plus Hannah's passion for thrifting and Victorian decor seamlessly aligned with the rich history depicted in the story, making it the perfect canvas for our festive endeavors this holiday season. She is one of the most creative women I know.
The Color Palette for the Little Women Christmas Home Tour
Now that we had our Christmas theme inspiration, the first thing we turned our attention to was a color scheme, and without consciously knowing it, we turned to burgundy and gold. It was an easy color scheme to incorporate, and we will share why soon.
Little Women Christmas Decor
The Little Women novel comes to life in our decorations, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of the mid-1800s with a little Christmas magic.
The coffee table hosts the novel, accompanied by antique spectacles and a candle, setting the stage for a journey through time.
Our Christmas tree in the family room, adorned with velvet ribbons and needlepoint stockings on the mantel, pays homage to handmade traditions. The scent of real cedar garlands fills the air, recreating the aroma of the March family home.
These are just a few things to help paint a picture of this years inspiration.
Burgundy and Gold Christmas Color Scheme
Warm red tones and golden accents define this year's decor. Burgundy velvet ribbons elegantly tie bows on the Christmas tree, while red berries and gold bells grace the mantel.
The entryway serves as a prelude, with candle holders adorned in burgundy velvet bows and cedar cuttings.
Now let's look room by room at each details that makes this years theme so cozy and warm.
Entryway Christmas Decor
Let's kick off our Christmas home tour right at the entryway – the cozy spot where we greet friends and family, setting the tone for the whole festive vibe. It's like the warm-up act for the main living areas, you know?
So, in our foyer, we went all out with a mix of fresh cedar cuttings, candles, and some fancy burgundy velvet ribbon.
And here's the cool part – these things are like the stars of the show; you'll spot them sprinkled throughout the rest of our holiday setup.
Oh, and I can't forget this sentimental touch – a piece of art my sister gave me ages ago. It's got that perfect Little Women Christmas feel, you know, like it just belongs.
Flanking the artwork are these snazzy new candle holders I'm getting to use for the first time, decked out in burgundy ribbon bows and more cedar bits.
Plus, on the foyer table, we've got this vintage wooden dough bowl, keeping the same cool elements going.
This entryway isn't just a welcome – it's like a sneak peek into the magic that's waiting in the rest of the house. So, come on in, and let's get this holiday party started!
Living Room Christmas Decor
Beginning our holiday decor shopping at Hearth & Hand and Studio McGee, we brought home elements to kickstart our Little Women-inspired design, like this pillow on the sofa.
The Christmas tree harkens back to the 19th century. Bedecked with burgundy velvet bows and handmade popcorn garland, takes center stage near the antique mora clock.
Can't you just picture the March sisters stringing the popcorn garland?
We purposely placed it here by the television so our family members can gather and enjoy the warm glowing lights while watching favorite Christmas movies like It's a Wonderful Life or even Little Women.
The mantel showcases needlepoint stockings, fresh garlands, burgundy bows, and a symphony of white bells, adding layers of festive charm.
And in the center are brass candlesticks holders with battery-powered candles to illuminate our living room just like they did in the Little Women times – mid 1800s.
But the one spot in the living room that tells the story the most is the coffee table where we placed a stack of old books with the new Rifle Paper Co. Little Women covered book. A tell tell sign of our inspiration.
To add to the story, we placed an open book of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol with an old pair of spectacles. Then nestled next to the books is another brass candlestick holder with a battery powered candle and a ribbon bow tied around it.
You'll see these cute white and red ribbons throughout our home.
Dining Room
In the dining room, a thrifted linen tablecloth sets the stage in the center of the room, complemented by a Germany antique dough bowl filled with books, white linen, and DIY gingerbread village candle holders.
The table feels ready for Christmas breakfast.
On the bookcases are Dollar Store villages transformed into gingerbread houses, creating a whimsical village display with Epsom salt snow around them and an English vintage oil painting.
Bowls of fruit and more cuttings of cedar which were very common during this time in history.
Kitchen Christmas Decor
Turning our attention to the kitchen, red and white bows and snow evoke a winter wonderland vibe. The range hood and crock by the stove don the cedar and bows.
And in the middle of the range is a cutting board with crock of cranberries, greenery and a light.
On the other side of the kitchen is an ensemble of decorations.
I change out printable art throughout the year for holidays and special events. This year's choice is Santa's sleigh and reindeer, available in our Etsy shop.
Our usual fruit bowl has turned into a candy bowl full of sweet treats for the holidays.
Kitchen Sitting Room
The snowy winter wonderland theme continues in the kitchen sitting room, with red and white details adorning hooks.
Our basket full of cedar cuttings adorned with a burgundy bow, blanket for those cool nights, a jingle bell wreath, snow filled cedar garland adorned with the same red and white bow of the kitchen and more greenry on the cutting boards.
The hutch filled with Currier and Ives-like red and white dishes. They are all dressed up with our white Santa mugs and festive greenery scattered throughout.
This area is perfect for a hot cocoa or coffee bar. Family are welcome to grab a plate and mug to serve themselves.
Butlers Pantry Christmas Decor
Saving the best for last – let's talk about our butler's pantry. The cutest little decorating nook in our home, no doubt. It's like the sweet spot of our holiday setup.
We kept it simple but oh-so-festive. Picture this: jars wrapped up with red and white ribbons, topped off with the prettiest bows.
And to sprinkle a bit of Etsy magic, we've got these adorable printables wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.
Trust me, this butler's pantry is bringing all the Christmas cheer. It's the tiny corner that packs a festive punch and adds that extra dash of holiday spirit.
Cheers to simple joys and a very Merry Christmas!
