Now before we start folding here is a pattern to follow for the folds. This will help you visualize each step as we go along.

Pattern to make a heart doily envelope

Step 1: Fold the Sides In

Begin by laying your heart paper doily down on a flat surface.

Next fold one side inward of the paper doily and then the other.

It is step one and two on the pattern above. This will start forming the envelope shape.

Step 2: Fold the Top Down

Next, fold the top of the heart down to create the bottom flap, think of the top of a heart, towards the middle. You will begin to see the shape of the envelope now.

Step 3: Fold the Bottom Down

Next fold the bottom of the heart down to create the top flap. I know this all seems a little backwards but just think of what the top of a heart is and what the bottom of the heart is.

Last step in making a homemade envelope

Now you are folding the bottom of a heart down over the envelope to finish the pouch shape.

Step 4: Secure the Sides

Before gluing, it helps to first fold it over and gently score the edges. This will give your envelope crisp lines and make it easier to keep its shape.

Once scored, apply glue or a bit of double-stick tape inside the fold, then press it firmly to secure.

Step 5: Press and Dry

To ensure that your envelope stays together, place a book or any heavy object on top of it. Allow about 10 minutes for the glue to dry thoroughly.

Step 6: Display Your Creation

Your charming envelope is now complete! Place it on a plate alongside a cupcake stand to showcase your beautiful handiwork like I did on each place setting for our family Valentine dinner party.
