What is Pottery Barn?
Pottery Barn is a great one-stop shop for all your decor needs. They carry a little of everything from furniture, the slipcover sofa is one of my favorite, to dinnerware, but that is not where they began.
Initially, they sold Pottery that they acquired from a Barn, hence the name Pottery Barn, along with European furniture. Two brothers built the business and after multiple brick-and-mortar stores, they created a catalog. This all happened beginning in the 1950s in Manhattan, New York, but later the brothers sold to two larger companies in the 80s. The Pottery Barn store legacy is going strong to this day.
What Design Style is Pottery Barn?
According to the Home Design Institute, Pottery Barn's design style is classic Americana. Their furniture and home decor is typically very traditional and features a lot of dark wood tones and plaid fabrics. However, they also mix in some more modern and contemporary pieces to keep their look fresh. They also offer beautiful decor during the holiday seasons.
Is Pottery Barn considered High-end?
Pottery Barn is known for it's upscale furniture and designs that offer high quality with a fresh look. The prices lean towards the high-end but you can find plenty of affordable pieces, many of which you'll see in our picks.

Pottery Barn Collection Favorites
Cozy Throws and Pillows
Textured Basketweave Knit Throw Blanket
Cozy and lightweight, this throw brings a comfortable layer to a couch or bed. We love the organic look of the thick, hand-knotted weave (and the beautiful texture it creates). Tasseled ends add a playful finishing touch.
Floral Embroidered Throw Pillow
Breathing room between bouquets makes this a fresh version of classic florals, the soulful tones are inspired by sunrise and sunset. Follow color cues in the flowers to build a group of matching stripes and solids.
Handwoven Silk Throw Pillow
Ivory is creamy, calming, and lush. We think of it as the soulful side of white and when we see it in a silky texture like this handwoven cover, we can’t help but surround it with more Napa-like neutrals.
Floor Rugs, Area Rugs & Throw Rugs
Nahla Hand-Tufted Wool Rug
Nahla’s blend of warm hues and patinaed pattern evokes the look of an antiqued carpet. The hand-tufted yarns are looped and sheared, bringing definition and a textured feel to the design. Style this in a bedroom or make it the grounding layer to your living space.
Neutral Hand-Knotted Rug
Gwynyth is rendered in warm, tonal shades that work well in any setting. Classic motifs with a faded appearance and an antique finish give it a painterly feel that softens the design.
Edmonton Hand-Knotted Rug
Rendered in deep indigos and bold reds, Edmonton has a color palette we love. It's knotted from handspun New Zealand and Indian wool with gorgeous striations. This rug keeps the room cool in warmer months and cozy when the weather turns crisp.
Faux Plants, Flowers & Wreaths
Lit Faux Harvest Pumpkin Wreath & Garland
Modern and high-contrast, this pinpoint-illuminated wreath and garland pair delicate bare branches with white maple leaves and miniature pumpkins. Hang or drape them in a sheltered porch, across the mantel, or encircling a festive centerpiece to show off their bright, seasonal beauty.
Handcrafted Lit Maple Pumpkin Wreath & Garland
This profusion of golden maple and pale green oak leaves celebrates abundance and the change of seasons with its exuberant texture and radiant color. Bejeweled with tiny pumpkins, the wreath and garland will lift your mood and instantly elevate your front door, mantel, or banisters.
Faux Autumn Aspen Tree Branch
Golden tones glow in the leaves of this aspen branch, bringing nature’s alchemy indoors. This lifelike botanical contains wires that allow you to arrange and rearrange it into fresh compositions of your choice.
Indoor & Outdoor Lighting
Marion Woven Dome Pendant
Beautiful wicker basket material dome pendant light perfect for over a table or hanging over a bed.
Dawson Metal Table Lamp
Beautifully crafted black metal lamp with gold interior shade. The perfect mix of modern, traditional and timeless.
Kitchen & Dining
Heirloom Stoneware 16-Piece Dinnerware Set
Inspired by flea market finds, these nostalgic pieces honor the past but are designed to mingle for a modern setting. Crafted by hand, the stoneware features geometric edges, subtle curves, and a white glaze. Dine with the full set or mix and match for a collected feel.
Turned Wood Serving Bowl
Carved from a single piece of wood, each features unique markings that ensure no two are exactly alike. Whether you add it to your Thanksgiving table or enjoy it year-round, it’s sure to take your presentation to the next level.
Julia Berolzheimer Goldie Tablecloth
The floral spirit of a harvest garden party comes to life in this paisley-meets-batik print. Chrysanthemum colors (think butterscotch and berry) transition well, taking your table from season to season.
Outdoor Patio & Porch Collection
Julia Berolzheimer Woven Planter
Combining graceful curves with the handwoven look of rattan, This planter is crafted from an all-weather resin, making it pretty and practical indoors and out. Available in three sizes.
Julia Berolzheimer Fleur Two Tier Scalloped Etagere
Inspired by a European find, this etagere has a gingerbread scalloped edge and a soft sage finish. Use it outside for your potted favorites or indoors as an unexpected design moment.
Julia Berolzheimer Eloise Demilune Scalloped Table
Like the casual accents on our favorite porches, the scalloped edge of this iron demilune etagere doesn't lean too far into formal. Use it as a console in the foyer or a spot for plants on the porch. The soft sage green has seasonless versatility.
Holiday & Seasonal Decor
Cozy Sherpa Pumpkin Pillow
Whether it’s on your sofa or a shelf, start with a pumpkin pillow and let the fall decor fan out from there. This shape can’t help but shift the season in your room, and the teddy bear fabric with twine stem is a texture pair we love to have hearthside.
Handcrafted Terracotta Pumpkins
Pumpkins and other gourds bring the moodiest, coziest seasons - and the outdoors - inside. Hollow and lightweight, these are handcrafted from red clay and glazed with durable enamel for a tonal finish that captures traces of the maker’s hand. Stand them alone or in groups - indoors or out - to create texture and depth.
Faux Pumpkins & Gourds
The most realistic faux pumpkins and gourds I have ever seen first hand. If you are looking for a real looking fall decoration this one is a great one.
Lit Ghosts - Set of 2
Haunt your guests with this pair of charming ghosts. Illuminated with warm white, energy-efficient lights, they can float wherever you like, greeting guests on the porch, mingling in the living room, or providing a spine-tingling focal point at the far end of the hall. Just set them on the timer and let them glow.
Gus the Ghost with Pumpkin Pillow
This adorable ghost that has gone viral on TikTok is a favorite this year at Pottery Barn. Add him to your pillow decor for a fun and cozy Halloween decoration.
Harry Potter" Floating Candle String Lights
Inspired by the famed floating candles of the Great Hall, these charmed luminaries add a bewitched look to a dinner party or yard display. Paired with a remote control, you can keep them twinkling all through the night for a magical glow.
Scary Squad Mug - Set of 4
Prepare for a ghoulishly good time. With plenty of personality, these playful ghosts are ready to cause some mischief. This matte stoneware features different characters that pops against a contrasting background. Perfect for Halloween entertaining, you’ll want to bring out this set year after year.
Did you came across anything that caught your interest or captured your heart, and you're currently wondering how to incorporate them into your decor, let me share a few ways I've utilized Pottery Barn decor to adorn my home. Hopefully, these examples will provide you with some inspiration.
Decorating with Pottery Barn
Having shared my favorite selections from Pottery Barn, let's now explore some ideas for decorating with their pieces. Read on for Pottery Barn inspiration.
Decorating with Pottery Barn Home Decor
Because Pottery Barn is transitional, timeless and classic you can use most of their items with different styles, themes and such. Here is Pottery Barn decorating ideas where I used their fabric napkins on my hutch decorations.
Simply fold the napkins and sit them on top of the bottom plate leaving a little bit of the napkins folded down the side. Then set your cup and saucer on top.
Consider adding dinner napkins to your dish display like I did here. This is a great way to add color and texture to your decorations and you can change them out seasonally or for holidays.
Now that your napkins and dishes are displayed you can easily grab everything to set your table.
Decorating with Pottery Barn Holiday Decor
Pottery Barn has some of the cutest holiday decorations. I love when they come out with their newest designs. It seems like every year they have one new item that is trendy while other items are classic.
Several years ago I bought some of the large jack-o-lanterns to paint white. Here is a photo of the Jack-o-lantern along with dollar stores ones I painted so they all matched. Different embellishments on each pumpkin adds a nice touch. They're adorable with flameless candles inside.
This was the most fun DIY project! And it's a great alternative to endlessly hunting for the exact pumpkin decor you want. Here is the blog post where I share how to paint jack-o-lanterns and then making them into a jack-o-lantern centerpiece. The centerpiece will look great on your dining table, side table, or your coffee table.
Aren't these guys so cute! I had the most fun decorating with them that Halloween. And as you can see, they are one of the easiest ways to decorate for fall and will look great in your entire house.
Another classic Pottery Barn holiday decoration are the faux pumpkins. This is a favorite Pottery Barn living room idea of mine. These will make great decorations for many years to come. I didn't know how real these looked until I shopped their store.
The orange pumpkins are Pottery Barn while the pink and white are not. Look at how real the stem looks on the orange pumpkins and the finish on the outside is painted so realistically. They look fantastic with my storage basket holding throw blankets.
I would have never bought these pumpkins online but after seeing them in the store I knew I needed to take them home. Their great quality and neutral palette will work well with any design style in your own home. I'll be able to use them again next year and for many years after.
Conclusion
With Pottery Barn you can decorate your bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom, holiday decor and so much more. They have a little of everything and with their classic timeless design you will feel certain that your decor will be in vogue for years to come.
As the new arrivals are featured online and/or in the stores I will keep this post updated. The decorating with Pottery Barn section I will keep the same and add to it when I decorate with newer pieces. We had such a good time putting these looks together.
