This farmhouse pumpkin centerpiece has autumn written all over it but the best part about this centerpiece is how easy it is to make. Follow this simple tutorial to create a beautiful table centerpiece for autumn or your Thanksgiving table.
This autumn season I decided I wanted a farmhouse pumpkin centerpiece. Luckily, I already had this cottage-looking wood tray and some clear glass bottles so I only needed to add a pinch of harvest to get that fall feeling.
DIY FARMHOUSE PUMPKIN CENTERPIECE
Before running out to the store I decided to try my hand at painting some old mini pumpkins first. I started with Pinterest searching for “fall pumpkin centerpieces.”
While scrolling through an abundance of options I came across a photo of some real pumpkins that were the most beautiful pastel colors. Now that I had a plan here are the steps on how to make a pastel pumpkin centerpiece.
How to Make a Pumpkin Centerpiece
Pastel Pumpkin Centerpiece Supplies
- Acrylic Paint (I used pastel colors)
- Artist Paint Brushes
- Mini Pumpkins
- Raffia
- Tray
- Glass bottles
- Twine
- Candles
Now that we have all our supplies let's begin by painting the pumpkins.
ACRYLIC PAINTS SELECTIONS
The best paint for this project is acrylic. The matte finish is perfect!
To get the lighter orange/pink color I had to add some cream to lighten it up. And for the blue pumpkin, I simply added a drop or two of green to make it a little more blue green.
Oops, I just realized the green didn't make it into the photo.
Then I painted the rest cream and the stems colored khaki.
This project would have been much easier if I had picked up the exact colors from the store but I was so excited to start that I decided that I could make the acrylics work.
PAINTING THE PUMPKINS
Painting these pumpkins is so simple and easy!
After painting the pumpkins with a small paint brush I placed them on top of acrylic bottles to dry. Lucky for me the stems popped up just enough so I could paint under them.
After the pumpkin was dry I painted the stem. It is that simple!
DECORATING THE CENTERPIECE
Now for the fun part! Since I already had the tray and glass bottles all I had to do was arrange them the way I wanted and add the candles and raffia.
Raffia really has that harvest feeling and is perfect for softening up the rustic wooden tray for the pumpkins to sit on.
Finally, place the mini pumpkins strategically until you get the perfect placement. I love how they look sitting on the hay. It reminds me of an old farmers market where you shop for produce in crates on top of the soft hay.
