Best Sage Green Paint Colors

For good reason, Sage Green has been trending in the design world for some time now. This versatile color can add serenity and peacefulness to your home decor. But which sage green is the right one for your home, you might be asking. Well, you have come to the right place because I am sharing my go-to sage green colors and I have reached out to each brand to get their most popular, most sold, best sage green paint colors.

How to make shiplap with plywood

After years of picking paint colors with clients and designing their homes, I have to say that selecting paint is one of my favorites. There is a sense of satisfaction when you select a color like sage green and it creates the most beautiful mood for a room.

Whether you're looking to spruce up your living room, home office, bedroom, dining room or even your laundry room, sage green is a great choice for all your living spaces. I know that picking paint colors is not easy if you don't do it every day, so that is why I recommend you start with the best sage green paint colors.

When we redesigned my daughter's room she wanted green to bring a more natural look to her room. She loves antiques and vintage so finding a sage green that would work with her design needed to be just right. So like I do with my clients I turn to the trending colors first.

Why do I turn to the paint color trends? Because it is a great way to narrow down your choices and easier to start there than to lay out all the green colors by each paint brand. Trust me when I say that can be overwhelming and we want your room makeover to be fun and enjoyable.

I'm excited to introduce you to my favorite sage green paint colors. So, let's begin with Sherwin Williams because that is where we landed for her shiplap accent wall.

Best Sherwin William Sage Green Paint Colors

The first of our best paint colors is Escape Gray, and we are starting here because this was not on the list of top sage green colors when I began our search.

Escape Gray SW 6185

So learn from me and start with the popular colors first. Once we decided we loved Evergreen Fog but felt it was too dark, we looked one color lighter and found this gorgeous Escape Gray color. It was the perfect choice for this accent wall.

Best sage green paint colors

I have found this Escape Gray to be such an easy one to work with over time. This timeless color reads gray and green simultaneously, making it a nice and pleasant sage green and one of the best sage green paint colors. This sage green pairs great with warm whites. It helps create a calming space and soothing atmosphere. Talk about an easy choice!

With an LRV of 41, it's not too dark but still has excellent depth. The RGB for this color is 171/172/159. I typically do not look at these numbers when working with color, but I pay attention when it is white or neutral. Here is more information about LRV in paint and RGB to help you select paint colors and find your perfect shade.

Now let's look at Evergreen Fog since that was the first color we looked at for an accent color and is one of Sherwin Williams's recommended sage green paint colors.

Evergreen Fog SW 9130

If you are looking for a deeper sage green color, then for sure, get a sample of this. With an LRV of 30, this color will truly bring a dramatic touch to your home decor.

Great places to use this color are floors, accent walls, a room with lots of natural light, the exterior, cabinets, and furniture. But before you buy a whole can of paint and start painting sage green walls, follow my tips on picking a paint color.

Sherwin Williams Clary Sage SW 6178

Years ago I wrote a post on the most popular Sherwin Williams green paint colors and Clary Sage was one of the example.

I thought this earthy green color was so pretty and couldn't wait to share it here. In the blog post, I featured this color on sage green kitchen cabinets that really set this kitchen apart. With an LRV of 41 this sage green is an excellent choice with a rich depth. Places to consider using this color is anywhere – walls, accent walls, furniture, cabinets, doors, trim, and floors.

Clary Sage has a slight yellow undertones which makes it a warm soft herbal sage green color. Now let's head over to Benjamin Moore for my their most sold colors.

Popular Benjamin Moore Sage Green Paint Colors

Big thanks to Benjamin Moore for sharing with me their top most sold and popular sage green paint colors. After looking at the colors, I can see why they are so beautiful! Let's look at the charming colors to consider for your home.

Benjamin Moore Saybrook Sage HC-114

Best sage green paint colors - benjamin moore Saybrook Sage

Saybrook Sage is a lovely neutral sage color with an LRV of 45.46, which makes its depth of color similar to that of Sherwin Williams Escape Gray. This green hue will look beautiful when painted on walls, trim, floors, cabinets, furniture, and exterior.

Now let's go a little lighter and look at Benjamin Moore's second popular sage green color.

Benjamin Moore October Mist 1495

October Mist has a similar LRV of 46.54 as Saybrook Sage and Escape Gray, but if my eyes serve me correctly, it has more gray in it. So if you want a more gray-green color, then test out this Benjamin Moore color.

I love how Benjamin Moore explained this color: “Evocative of the stem of a flower, this gently shaded sage anchors and uplifts.” This color can be used anywhere, such as accent walls, trim, floors, walls, cabinets, and exterior.

Have you noticed I haven't mentioned ceilings for any of these colors? There is a good reason, and it has to do with color getting darker when it is typically on a ceiling. If you want a dark and moody room feel, use one of these ceiling colors, like in a theatre room or music room. They also work great in rooms with very tall ceilings.

Benjamin Moore Soft Fern 2144-40

I saved the sage green color with the most color for last, Soft Fern 2144-20 by Benjamin Moore.

Something about this color is calling me to test it out. It has much more green in it and if. If you are a lover of green, then this might be your sage green color. I can see it becoming one of my favorite colors.

The description from Benjamin Moore on this sage green is even more pretty than the last one, “A pleasing pale green misted with gray tones.” I think that describes this color perfectly.

With an LRV of 56, this color is lighter than all the others. Great places to use it are walls, doors, accent walls, cabinets, and furniture. It would be a nice color for a country cottage or lake house. Here are cottagecore decor ideas to inspire you to use sage green colors.

Now that we have discussed Benjamin Moore let's move forward to another one of my favorite paint brands: Behr Paint.

Best Behr Sage Green Paint Colors

Next lets look at the best Behr sage green paint colors. For years I have perosnally used Behr paint and not only is their paint quality but they have some great green colors.

Behr Sage Brush

Let's start with the lightest sage green paint color example and that is Sage Brush S-370-3.

Behr sage brush paint color

With an LRV of 52 this is a good mid range light reflectance value. Behr describes this color as a light olive green which should help you visualize its true color from the description.

Great places to use this color are walls, accent wall and furniture. You can pretty much use this color anywhere but these are my top suggestions. If you love olive green then this is a great color for you and it will work nicesly in smaller spaces without much light.

Behr Urban Nature

Following such a pretty sage green color is a deeper sage green called Urban Nature S380-3.

Behr urban nature

Imagine shades of earth tones mixed with concrete and you have Urban Nature. This is a fantastic neutral green tone which makes it the classic sage green paint color. With an LRV of 51 it is also in the mid range making it a beautiful sage green paint color.

Places to use this color are anywhere but my top suggestions are walls, trim, doors and walls.

Now that we have talked about the best Behr sage green paint colors I want to introduce you to a new paint to me and that is Lick Paint.

Why is Sage Green So Popular?

Sage green is a timeless color that creates a harmonious and soothing atmosphere. It's a versatile and graceful color that brings subtle touches of nature indoors.

Final Thoughts

Now that we have talked about so many gorgeous sage green paint colors here are a few final thoughts to help you select just the right color.

Whether you know you want sage green or you're not so sure, try the process of elimination. Toss out the sage green colors you do not like first and narrow down to two or three of the best sage green paints.

For beset results, once you have your top choices purchase a large sample if available and hang it on your wall. If you have color on your wall already make sure you put it on something white so the other color doesn't affect the sage green.

Next, leave it for a day or two to see it in a different light throughout the day. Once you have decided, purchase a sample can and paint it on the wall in a big area. Trust me, seeing the color on a larger scale will give you the confidence to move forward or to try another color. You're sure to find your perfect color.

I hope this post has helped you select the perfect sage green paint color. Sage green is a fantastic color to use in your home because of its soothing tranquil qualities. Have you used sage green or plan to use sage green in your own home? I'd love to hear your experience in the comments!

Good luck on your paint project!

Happy Decorating!

I’m thinking about using this color as an accent in the new bathroom. In the shower curtain and/or towels.

Also, this color of green used to be on the walls of my elementary school and a lot of schools in my childhood (the 1960s.) We were told that this color had a calming effect on people.

By the time I had my first child in 1977, we as new mothers were told to paint and use bright colors in our nurseries, to stimulate brain function for better learning. I used bright green, yellow, and orange in her nursery. We didn’t know a baby’s sex until they were born, so you used neutral colors.
