Every year during fall, industry experts with paint companies release paint trends for the coming year. Typically there is one paint color of the year and many more to give direction and inspiration to homeowners, designers, and architects. These 2023 color trends are calm and inspiring.
As an interior designer, I cannot wait to see what brands are predicting for the colors of the year and the color forecast. This is helpful when clients want trendy designs.
I worked with Behr paint mid-year last year and transformed my coat closet into a vintage style pantry. While waiting for the green light, they asked if I would use one of three colors. I choose two colors; Blank Canvas and Gratifying Gray.
Little did I know that Blank Canvas would be Behr's color of the year for 2023. Let's talk about Behr's paint color after this list of 2023 paint colors of the year.

2023 Color Trends (Paint Color of the Year)
- Behr: Blank Canvas
- Krylon: Spanish Moss
- Benjamin Moore: Raspberry Blush
- Sherwin Williams: Redend Point
- Dunn-Edward: Terra Rosa
- Glidden: Vining Ivy
- Dutch Boy: Rustic Griege
- Valspar: Gentle Violet
The 2022 hues were almost unanimous green and nature-inspired, but this year's color choices have more variety with calm, cozy, and inspiration in mind. There is a real color psychology behind these new shades.
Behr Blank Canvas
Having worked with this color firsthand, I can honestly say it is a calm, warm, and creamy white color. I used this color on the side walls of my butler's pantry. It was the perfect white to pull together the hall color of Kilim Beige by Sherwin Williams and the shelves of Behr Gratifying Gray.
After recent studies, Behr shared that white promotes calmness and relaxation. “Blank Canvas effortlessly offers a clean and inviting blank slate that allows individuality and creativity to flow freely,” says Erika Woelfel, Vice President of Color and Creative Services at Behr Paint Company.
I believe white is a timeless paint color that will never go out of style, so if you are considering a warm white neutral, look into Blank Canvas by Behr.
Kyrlon Spanish Moss
I don't know about you, but I love spray paint. It is one of the best inventions in the world of paint. Krylon came out with Spanish Moss as their color of the year. Green is a popular paint color, and since rom-com core decorating is a recent topic, I think this color hits the nail on the head.
If you are looking for a furniture color, check out Krylon's deep and moody nature-inspired colors. Is it me, or does this color remind you of hunter or forest green from the 90s?
Benjamin Moore Raspberry Blush
Benjamin Moore feels that people are ready to bring color back into their homes, and Raspberry Blush is perfect for adding a splash of color and a warm hue.
Benjamin Moore's color of the year is a vivid coral pink hue that will be bold and beautiful on walls and furniture. This color is similar to the Pantone color of the year, which are vibrant colors.
Sherwin Williams Redend Point
Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams think red tones are the trend in 2023. Sherwin William's color of the year Redend Point is another red family color with a muted mauvy look. With a focus on well-being and kindness, this color encompasses all that and more.
Vintage decorations are trendy this year, so imagine an old weathered clay pot that is Redend. Great places to use this color are accent walls, interior walls, furniture, and floors. This color will bring a warm cozy feeling and looks amazing in a cozy book nook space or dining room.
Dunn-Edward Terra Rosa
Next on our 2023 color trends is Dunn-Edward, and since we are on the topic of red family colors, here is another company with a similar idea. Dunn-Edward Terra Rosa is gorgeous!
I love how Dunn-Edward describes it as “a deep rosy pink hue with a touch of terra-cotta.”
This color is perfect for a child's cottagecore bedroom, on furniture, accent walls, or a dramatic half bath. Check out this rosy saturated shade.
Farrow & Ball Bamboozle
Farrow and Ball's color experts revealed 11 trending paint colors. All the colors are beautiful, but Farrow and Ball feel the popular choice will be Bamboozle. With this being the forth red tone color, it appears red is a key color this year.
Look at all the Farrow and Ball colors if you have a moment. With an earthy tone in mind, these natural colors are lovely!
Glidden Vining Ivy
Do you see the variety in colors this year? Last year was green tones, but this year they range from red to green. Glidden describes Vining Ivy color as “bluish-greenish-something-in-betweenish” color.
So many opportunities with these gorgeous deep moody colors that Glidden forecasts. This paint color will go nicely as an accent wall, over a chair rail, or anywhere.
Dutch Boy Rustic Griege
Recently I shared my top greige paint colors by Sherwin Williams, and that greige is the new farmhouse and transitional home decor color. I am not surprised that Dutch Boy picked Rustic Griege as their color of the year.
This neutral paint color can go anywhere in your home, from walls to floors and open spaces like a living room and kitchen.
Valspar Colors of the Year
Valspar predicted 12 colors in the year 2023. This gives each person color to hone into their creative style.
Sue Kim, Valspar Color Marketing Manager said, “Valspar's 2023 Colors of the Year are usable shades that encourage self-expression, and anyone can envision in their space.”
I feel they achieve just what Sue said, and these colors were selected with joy, acceptance, and comfort in mind. Their color forecast is natural with bold colors yet includes vivacity and mood.
Such a beautiful color palette!
I choose Everglade Deck to feature here because it encompasses nature and mood, which I feel was the main focus of all the color trends of 2023.
Final Thoughts
We have finished all the color trends by top brands. It is fun to be trendy, but in all the years I have been designing homes, I have found each person has their own design style.
Their style may lean a certain way, like modern farmhouse or victorian, but each individual has a vibe all their own in that genre.
Remember you are different from everyone else, so when you are searching for paint color, look for colors that you like and can live with.
For example, I love the look of black. But many years ago, I learned through experience that I couldn't live with the color black. I bought a black comforter with beautiful pink roses on it, and it made me feel overwhelmed after leaving it on my bed for a week. I then realized that black doesn't make me feel happiness and comfort inside my home.
What color predictions inspire you? Are there any 2023 paint color trends you are considering? I think Behr Blank Canvas will be a popular color.
Please share with me in the comments which color is your favorite and where you plan to use one or two.
