What Supplies Do I need to Make Advent Stockings?

  1. Christmas Stocking Download: Begin by downloading and printing the Christmas mini stocking pattern pages from our Etsy shop to serve as the foundation for your festive creations.
  2. Pencil: Keep a pencil close by to trace the stocking pattern on the decorative papers. I use these mechanical pencils – their a favorite for crafting.
  3. Scissors: Pick a reliable pair of scissors to ensure clean, crisp edges for your stockings.
  4. Double-Sided Tape: This adhesive marvel will join the various elements of your stockings seamlessly, without compromising their aesthetic appeal.
  5. Twine: Any color twine but I choose white baker's twine for the stocking and then a thicker twine for the garland.
  6. Yarn Needle: This slender needle plays a crucial role in threading the baker's twine and attaching delightful circle numbers to complete your advent stockings.

Step 2: Cut and Trace

With your pair of scissors, cut out the stocking patterns. Place these patterns on the decorative paper and trace them with a pencil, capturing the essence of holiday cheer.

Make sure to cut two stockings by placing the stockings in opposite directions on the decorative paper. This will be the back and front of the stocking.

Step 3: Tape and Twine

Apply double-sided tape along the inside edge of one stocking, excluding the top. Carefully cut twine into a two-inch piece, folding and placing it in the top corner away from the toe.

Seal the deal by adding a small piece of double-sided tape in the same corner on the other stocking and then secure the two stockings together, uniting the two sides.

Step 5: Advent Calendar Printable Numbers

Cut out the circle numbers and use a yarn needle to punch a hole in the top. You'll have one for each of the days of December.

Here is a little tip: For best results, set the paper circle number on a cushion and then press the needle through the top of the circle. The needle will pop through the paper and go into the cushion just like a sewing pin cushion.

Thread the twine through the circle number and tie the end with a knot to prevent the circle number from falling off. Complete the look by tying the end of the other tail, securing every element in place. You're almost ready to start your Christmas countdown.
