Cottage Farmhouse Paint Colors at Life on Summerhill

Farmhouse Paint Colors at Life on Summerhill

When I began redecorating our home in the farmhouse style I was thinking about a space that has a happy home feeling. So many times I have thought back to both my grandmother's houses and much of my inspiration has come from their old homes.

There are few rooms in any old farmhouse where the family gathers like the kitchen and around the fireplace in the living room so let's start with my living room paint color.

Living Room Paint Color

Our living room is the largest room in the house with lots of natural light. To add to the cozy feel of this space I went with Benjamin Moore Bone White PM-30 in an eggshell finish.

The color contrasts beautifully against our white mantel which was Sherwin Williams Extra White SW 7006 in a semigloss finish but is now Behr Ultra Pure White. All the trim in our living room along with any doors is the Sherwin Williams Extra White color.

Entryway Paint Color

Right beside our living room is our entryway. The ceilings are taller in this space and we have a raised-panel wainscot. This is the first room I painted all white/white.

The walls are Sherwin Williams Extra White in an eggshell finish and the trim and the inside of the front door is the same color but in semi-gloss.

Kitchen Paint Color

Straight from the living room is the kitchen where I recently painted our cabinets in First Star by Sherwin Williams. This is an almost white color but with a grey undertone.

Why did I pick the lightest grey I could find? Well, because I have white appliances, white subway tile backspace, and white countertops. I already have three different white colors so I decided to go with a grey but I still wanted it to have a white feeling.

The walls are now Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams and the range hood is Savannah Mist by Dixie Belle with a brown wax on top but let's see how it all looked before.

Since First Star did the job beautifully we kept that as the cabinet color. Then to break up the almost white kitchen I added color over the range. This grey with a touch of blue was the perfect addition to break up all the white.

Last, the walls are painted Sherwin Williams Rhinestone SW 7656. this is a pastel blue color that depending on the room it can look white. Like First Star, it is almost white but again all the whites in my kitchen definitely read a blue tone.

Here is a close-up photo showing the countertop, subway tile backsplash, and SW 7656. Rhinestone is painted in an eggshell finish and the trim is painted in semigloss SW 7006 extra white also by Sherwin Williams.

Now I thought you might like to see what my kitchen looked like before we painted the cabinet. Here are the cabinets when they were stained a medium to dark color.

You may also notice that my dishwasher is gone. It is actually still there I just added a panel front dishwasher by Bosch. If you don't know what that means well, basically you buy a certain kind of dishwasher that comes without a panel on the front. Then you have a door made to match your cabinets and attach it to the front of the dishwasher.

I went this direction because when you walk into my front door you see straight into my kitchen and this dishwasher is in the line of site so I thought cabinet door would be prettier than a dishwasher.

Kitchen Sitting Room

Our newest paint color in the kitchen sitting room is Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams. It make sense to continue the color from the kitchen into this space because they are open to each other. Now let's look back to what it was before.

Sometimes we call this the rocking chair room. This is the space where people love to gather while cooking is going on in the kitchen. They are open to each other and close enough for conversations.

In this room is my hutch where seasonal decor gets changed out and since this room has no division from the kitchen it was meant to be Sherwin Williams rhinestone on the walls with extra white on the trim.

As you may have noticed the board and batten trim goes almost to the ceiling. Whenever you have wainscot that goes up that far treat it like trim and paint it white unless you are a lover of color and then you can go ahead and give it color.

But keeping with the old farmhouse style I went with the traditional white on the wainscot and the trim.

Dining Room Paint Color

Next, let's take a step or two to our dining room. In this space, I wanted to try out Magnolia paint by Joanna Gaines. This room is more like Marty's library than a dining room now.

My husband loves native American history so a long time ago I bought him the beautiful piece of art of the Black foot native Americans over the hutch. I was looking for a cozy color that complimented the art but kept with the farmhouse feel.

Magnolia paint color Cupola was the perfect color. The walls are painted in a satin finish and the trim is in Sherwin Williams extra white semi-gloss.

Hall Paint Color

I like to encourage people to stay neutral in hallways. With many other colors stemming from your hall, this is a great space to keep it neutral.

This reminds me we have a post on best Sherwin Williams neutral colors. Anyways, our hall is an easy neutral Sherwin Williams color called Kilim Beige in eggshell with the trim in extra white.

I love using Kilim beige because it is a great warm neutral color that doesn't read any other hues. It is basically as neutral as they get.

Guest Bathroom Paint Color

I am going to be honest with this wall paint color because basically, I have no idea what color I painted years ago. LOL! However, the trim is extra white by Sherwin Williams in a semi-gloss finish.

Wish I could tell you what the wall color is because if I ever need to touch up I am going to have to change the color or get the help of Sherwin Williams to match it.

Guest Bedroom Paint Color

In our guest bedroom, I went with white on the walls and trim but unlike the entryway, I did them all in the same color and finish. Behr paint color Ultra Pure White is number 1850.

The walls and trim are in a matte finish. Talk about the easiest room to paint because there was no cutting in because I was using the same color and sheen.

If you need to paint a room quickly go with the same color and sheen.

Painted Desk Chair

This desk chair is painted in Miss Mustard Seed's milk paint in color Ironstone. After years of using this chair I love milk paint more and more. I had to share this paint color and paint because it is so pretty and farmhouse.

Hannah's Room

Hannah's room is also white with an accent wall. The walls and trim are all painted the same color but this time it is Sherwin Williams extra white in a satin finish. And her accent wall is escape gray also by Sherwin Williams.

She loves the natural color of the wood so the contrast of the wood with the white and gray-green really sets off the furniture tones. Her room is also a smaller size room so the white helps make it an open and airy feeling.

Laundry Room

One of my favorite DIY projects is the dutch door so coming in and out of this laundry room from the garage makes me smile. The room is painted extra white by Sherwin Williams on the walls and the trim in a satin finish.

The dutch door on the other hand is a pleasing farmhouse finish of Fusion Mineral paint in color Inglenook. The chalky finish gives it all the farmhouse feels.

Master Bedroom

Our master bedroom is also in the kilim beige family but it is divine white. A beautiful light neutral color that also matches just about everything.

Because my master bedroom doesn't get a lot of natural light I wanted something that would keep it light and bright but add a little color. We used Sherwin Williams Divine White SW 6105.

Master Bathroom Paint Colors

The next room on the list is our master bathroom. We just recently painted over the wallpaper and I have a post sharing the best way to paint over wallpaper.

The master bath walls are Sherwin William color alabaster white and the accent walls and cabinets are in repose gray.

Studio Office Paint Color

Last on the list except for the front door is the office where most of the work behind the scene happens on Life on Summerhill.

The walls and trim are all the same color and finish in Sherwin Williams extra white SW 7006. Even though there is lots of natural light we needed it brighter because we spend a lot of time on zoom calls.

Front Door Paint Color

Probably the one thing that get's painted the post is our front door. It is easy, quick and inexpensive the change and you can experiment and try colors to see how you like them.

It takes me about an hour to change the color on my front door so you can see why I love changing this paint color.

Here is our current paint color on our front door.

You might notice that blue is one of my favorite colors. When I saw this Behr French Colony color I knew I wanted to give it try. It was the perfect spring color for our front porch.

This paint color is Monorail Silver by Sherwin Williams. This color is a gray blue color but on my front door in natural light it has a more blue gray look. I was ready for a change and wanted something for the fall and Christmas season.

I get asked the most about the color of my front door and it is Wythe Blue by Benjamin Moore. However, when this color of the year many years ago came up I couldn't wait to try it somewhere so I chose my door as an experiment.

Many years later and it is still a favorite of mine and many others. But I have one other side note. The actual paint was mixed at Sherwin Williams. I went into the store and told them the color I wanted and somehow they had the formula.

So if you want Wythe Blue but have another paint store closer give them a call and ask if they can mix it anyways. There is a strong possibility.
